ST. LUCIE COUNTY – The Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged (FCTD) recently presented St. Lucie and Indian River counties with the 2022 Innovation of the Year Award for the Advantage Ride program.
This collaborative effort between Indian River & St. Lucie counties began in November of 2020 and has provided more than 56,000 trips all along the Treasure Coast for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
“Our Area Regional Transit (ART) staff continue to seek out and secure state and federal grants to offer unique programs that help our residents overcome their transportation needs. This is just another example of the great work that they do. The Board of County Commissioners sees the enormous difference that they make in the community, but it’s even more rewarding when that effort is recognized by an outside organization,” said St. Lucie County Commission Chair Sean Mitchell.
The Advantage Ride program also received a 2022 National Association of Counties Achievement Award in the Transportation Category.
